Identificació de biomarcadors pronòstics i predictius de resposta als tractaments oncològics en el càncer de mama, pulmó, cap i coll, colorectal i pròstata basats en estrès oxidatiu, metabolisme i immunitat, per tal d’avançar en la personalització en oncologia. Recerca en radiogenòmica. Estudis dels efectes antiinflamatoris de la radioteràpia a dosis baixes en patologia benigna. Estudis amb relació als avenços tecnològics de les diferents tècniques de radioteràpia (IMRT, VMAT, 4D, SBRT, entre d’altres).

El Grup de Recerca en Oncologia Radioteràpica de l’Institut d’Investigació Sanitària Pere Virgili (IISPV) es va iniciar l’any 2010 i està constituït per un equip multidisciplinari format per oncòlegs, físics, nutricionistes, enginyers, infermeres… amb una activitat assistencial que es dedica principalment als pacients amb càncer. Pertanyen al Servei de Ràdio-oncologia de l’Hospital Universitari Sant Joan de Reus (HUSJR) que és el Centre Sanitari de Referència per al tractament radiològic del càncer de pacients diagnosticats a la província de Tarragona, Espanya, amb una àrea d’influència d’una població de 813.000 habitants. L’any 2020, 2100 pacients van ser atesos al Servei. El Servei de Radioteràpia atén pacients de diferents hospitals de la província de Tarragona. La línia principal de recerca bàsica és “Marcadors predictius de resposta en càncer de mama”. El RGRO també desenvolupa projectes juntament amb altres grups de recerca de l’IISPV (Unitat de Recerca Biomèdica (URB)) i la Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV). El grup ha publicat 150 articles indexats en revistes d’abast internacional, així com en més de 450 comunicacions a congressos nacionals i internacionals.

L’equip de recerca té una àmplia experiència en l’estudi dels canvis metabòlics mediats per la disfunció mitocondrial en càncer de mama, pulmó, recte i cap i coll després de la radioteràpia. L’equip de recerca també col·labora amb el grup de Robòtica Intel·ligent i Visió per Computador de la Universitat Rovira i Virgili en l’anàlisi d’imatges mèdiques i estudis d’aprenentatge automàtic.

Una línia de recerca addicional del grup és sobre els efectes antiinflamatoris de la radioteràpia a dosis baixes en malalties benignes.
