The present invention relates to methods for diagnosing ascending aorta dilation or bicuspid aortic valve, determining the probability of suffering from ascending aorta dilation, predicting the progression of ascending aorta dilation and kits useful for carrying on said methods. The methods employ the level of the specific circulating miRNA molecules, miR-718, miR-130a, miR-122 and miR-486 for the diagnosis and reagents for detecting the specific miRNA in the kits.
The present invention is related to the technical field of diagnostics, particularly to methods for diagnosing ascending aorta dilation or bicuspid aortic valve, determining the probability of suffering from ascending aorta dilation, predicting the progression of ascending aorta dilation and kits useful for carrying on said methods.
The authors of the present invention have identified cell-free circulating miRNA miR-718 as a biomarker for ascending aorta dilation in blood samples and also for predicting the progression of a subject suffering from said disease. Additionally, the authors have identified three circulating miRNAs (miR-130a-3p, miR-122-5p and miR-486-5p) that allow diagnosing bicuspid aortic valve in a blood sample of a subject.

The authors of the present invention have found that circulating miRNA miR-130a-3p, miR-122-5p and miR-486-5p are independent biomarkers for bicuspid aortic valve identification in patients.

The identification of a subject that suffers ascending aorta dilation or bicuspid aortic valve requires starting a proper follow-up of the subject to control disease progression.
