METABOLIC AND NUTRITION DISEASES
TARGETS

The Biomedical Research Unit is led by Prof. Jorge Joven and Dr. Jordi Camps, and has the experience of three senior collaborators and four post-doctoral researchers, in addition, three students are doing their doctoral thesis. The Unit has been funded uninterruptedly with the mission and vision of conducting basic and clinical research with effective transfer to clinical practice. The current projects are to investigate non-communicable diseases such as morbid obesity and liver disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer and urinary tract infections, whose relationship between metabolism, oxidation and inflammation is being studied. Specifically, the role of markers of inflammation and oxidation, the use of natural compounds for the treatment of pathologies associated with obesity, as well as the nature and origin of metabolic disorders using chromatographic techniques have been studied. Currently, the Instituto de Salud Carlos III and La Marató de TV3 are the two main bodies that finance current projects.
