Researcher career profile (R2)

The Pere Virgili Institute for Health Research (IISPV) is an institution that integrates research in the field of biomedicine in the “Camp de Tarragona” and the “Terres de l’Ebre”. The IISPV is the instrument that the university hospitals of both health regions have been endowed with (Joan XXIII University Hospital of Tarragona, Verge de la Cinta Hospital of Tortosa, Sant Joan de Reus University Hospital, Institut Pere Mata University Hospital of Reus) and Rovira and Virgili University, in order to bring together and manage biomedical research and innovation in the territory.

The Pediatrics, Nutrition and Human Development Research Unit is a group that investigates several lines of research, such as the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity, studies of the mechanisms involved in the development of metabolic syndrome from childhood, as well like other research projects in the field of pediatric nephrology, pediatric gastroenterology.

This call is associated with the Project FIRST 1000 DAYS STRATEGIES TO PREVENT CHILDHOOD OBESITY (EndObesity, PCI2020-120697-2) funded by MCIN/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033 and by the European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR.

The selected candidate will perform the following tasks:

Conducting pediatric nutrition studies in diferent aspects:

  1. Fieldwork and data collection level using the following techniques:
  • Anthropmetry
  • Body composition assessment using bioimpedance and using air displacement plethysmography.
  • Revising and codin 3 days food diàries
  1. Data management and statistical analyses, using:
  • R Statistics Studio and
  • SPSS
  1. Publications




Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics
The researcher must have a Doctorate degree (PhD) in Biomedicine or Public Health or Nutrition Sciences or Medical sciences
Minimun 5 years demonstrable experience in the field
The candidate should report previous experience on the tasks and techniques used and/ or in the field of pediatric nutrition research
Language requirements:

·         English minimum level: advanced or B2 or equivalent

·         Native/ fluent Spanish or native/ fluent Catalan




  • Postgraduate training on aspects related to the call:
    • pediatric nutrition
    • childhood obesity
    • data analysis
    • good clinical practices
    • among others
  • Knowledge and previous experience in :
    • Coding food records,
    • Body composition analyses,
    • Use of R Statistics
    • Laboratory samples processing
  • Previous experience in similar projects
  • Publication in peer-review journals



  • Selection of CV’s. Suitable and unsuitable CV’s will be identified according to the requirements. Applicants who do not meet the requirements indicated in the candidate profile and requirements will not pass to the next phase.
  • Evaluation of the CV. Evaluation of the CVs up to a maximum score of 65 points.
  • Cover Letter. Attach to the resume a cover letter with a maximum length of 2500 characters with spaces. With a maximum score of 10 points.


To access the interview phase it is necessary to have obtained a minimum score of 40 points in the sum of scores of the evaluation of the curriculum and cover letter

  • Personal interview. With a maximum score of 25 points.

Condicions laborals

  • Full-time position
  • Workplace: Hospital Universitari Sant Joan de Reus / Hospital Universitari Joan XXIII de Tarragona / Facultat de Medicina i Ciències de la Salut de Reus
  • Contract: the type of contract is “indefinite”. According to the duration of the project, it is estimated to be 10 months (end of September 2024).
  • Gross annual salary: 25.900€
  • Starting date: 10th of november 2023
