Links: Micronutrient (MN) deficiency afflicts European society, putting human development and health at risk due to inadequate mineral and vitamin intake. Vulnerable demographics, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and marginalised groups, are particularly at risk, comprising about 70 % of the population. Lack of comprehensive data on deficiency prevalence hampers effective interventions, leaving discussions on meeting dietary needs in limbo. In this context, the EU-funded Zero_HiddenHunger_EU project aims to assess deficiency prevalence, analyse associated health costs, and devise tailored, sustainable solutions to eradicate hidden hunger across Europe. By leveraging advanced techniques and existing data, including biobanks, the project seeks to identify high-risk populations and develop effective strategies. The DigiDiab project consortium aims to develop further, implement, and evaluate their solution – a digital diabetes assistant called GlucoTab – for best-practice care delivery, with digitised patient-centred diabetes care, in domiciliary nursing care and nursing homes in different European pilot regions.
The project will evaluate GlucoTab in different settings and healthcare systems, and support market access of the patient-centred digital medical device in Europe for faster market entry and wider adoption. The digital solution has reached product readiness and is available as CE marked class IIa medical device in hospitals and the team is working towards validated solutions for nursing homes and domiciliary nursing care.

ENVESOME aims to elucidate mechanistically the role of air, noise, light, and hazardous waste pollution in non-communicable disease development. The project addresses the need to strengthen the knowledge available to policymakers regarding pollution-disease associations and causal mechanisms at different phases throughout the human lifecycle. ENVESOME proposes to develop an exposome and citizen-science-based framework for assessing the risks of emerging environmental health stressors. This will be achieved by fusing environmental monitoring and personal exposure data and models through AI tools. Human and cell biology knowledge, human biomonitoring, and in vitro data will be used to determine adverse outcome pathways and networks associated with environmental stressors.

The ambition of YEAH! is to develop an innovative personalised person-centred digital intervention that: (1) promotes children (8-10 years) and adolescents’ (14-16 years) social interactions with multiple actors of their environment, (2) targets multiple health behaviours (physical activity, sedentary behaviours, diet, sleep), (3) combines in a novel manner evidence-based knowledge of optimal intervention features (theory-driven approach), with co-creation with end-users and stakeholders (data-driven approach) to tailor the intervention to the local context and target group, and (4) relies on a state-of-the-art method of intervention development to rigorously measure and verify its impact, optimise its sustainable implementation in the community and its equity, and evaluate its cost-effectiveness.
