Descripción del trabajo

Dr. Carlos López, group leader of the Oncological Pathology & Bioinformatics Department at the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (Tortosa, Spain), is interested in receiving Expressions of Interest of potential candidates for the Marie Sklodowska – Curie Individual Fellowship (MSCA – IF) 2020 call.
The team has more than 15 years of experience in the study of the immune response in cancer using digital image analysis procedures applied for the quantification of tumour or immune markers. Our group have been the first to demonstrate – through paraffin-embedded samples – that the patterns of immune populations of the non-metastastic axillary lymph nodes differ between different groups of breast cancer patients. The most significant finding is that some of these differences may have clinical implications for patient outcome.

Our research focuses in two areas:

  • Biomarker discovery to better understand immune response in breast cancer patients.
  • Association of the immune response to the treatment, survival and relapse of the patients.
  • Study of the immune populations in the axillary lymph nodes using image processing
    analysis.

Condiciones laborales

We are looking for an experienced researcher in the field of biomedicine, strongly committed to high quality frontier research that will be able to add new insights to the existing Group’s core expertise in pathology and biomarker discovery. The project will utilise a broad range of molecular techniques (e.x. immunohistochemistry, Western Blot, PCR, cell culture, transmigration and proliferation analyses) combined with a new emerging technology considered the future of pathology diagnosis (i.e. Whole Slide Imaging, known as Virtual Slides) to unravel the role of the immune cells in the axillary lymph nodes in breast cancer progression.

The selected candidate will be based at the Tortosa campus, which is equipped with the technical and scientific facilities for carry out this project. In addition, the candidate will be supported by the IISPV and have access to our postgraduate training schemes.

Eligibility criteria:

At the deadline for the submission of the proposals (09/09/2020), the candidate should have:

  • Shall be in possession of a doctoral degree or 4 years of full-time equivalent experience;
  • Must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the above mentioned deadline;
  • Proven experience in the relevant molecular biology laboratory techniques;
  • Strong publication record with at least 5 publications as first author.

How to apply:

Interested candidates should send a CV, motivation letter explaining your research interests, and contact details of two referees at upi@iispv.cat (E-mail Subject: «IISPV – MSCA Dr López») by 30 April 2020.
