The Hospital Universitari Institut Pere Mata has secured funding for three projects with a total value exceeding €560,000
The Hospital Universitari Institut Pere Mata (HUIPM) has achieved a significant milestone in securing resources for research through the funding of three projects by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. This success reinforces the institution’s leadership in applied biomedical research in the field of mental health. The three projects, with a total funding of €560,625, will commence in 2025 and will span three years, ensuring continued financial support for three of the center’s pioneering research lines.
Approved projects:
VITACTíVATE: Promoting physical and mental health in patients with schizophrenia through personalized exercise
Principal Investigator: Lourdes Martorell
Funded Amount: 246,250 €
This project aims to improve the physical and mental health of patients with schizophrenia through personalized exercise programs, integrating physical activity as a therapeutic tool to promote the overall well-being of this group.
INSIGHT: Integrative Analysis of Genomic and Proteomic Profiles for Early Prediction of Psychotic Disorders
Principal Investigator: Gerard Muntané
Funded Amount: 246,250 €
INSIGHT is conceived as an innovative research project that will combine genomic and proteomic data to develop early prediction models for psychotic disorders, aiming to identify risk factors and advance early detection.
Proteomic and miRNA profile of extracellular vesicles derived from neurons and oligodendrocytes isolated from plasma and brain tissue: discovering diagnostic biomarkers in bipolar disorder
Principal Investigator: Elisabet Vilella
Funded Amount: 128,750 €
This research will focus on identifying biomarkers for the diagnosis of bipolar disorder through the analysis of proteomic and microRNA profiles in extracellular vesicles derived from neurons and oligodendrocytes. The results could transform diagnostic strategies for this disorder.
The projects will involve a multidisciplinary team from HUIPM, composed of professionals in psychology, psychiatry, nursing, nutrition, and other experts associated with the Genetics and Environment in Psychiatry (GAP) research group, a team with extensive experience in mental health research. The Managing Director of the Institut Pere Mata University Hospital, Dr. Francesc Xavier Arrufat, emphasized the significance of these projects: “This is the result of a long trajectory of research in the field of mental illnesses, from both a genetic and environmental perspective. Our organization is committed to research and innovation as tools to enhance knowledge and foster professional growth, with the ultimate goal of creating value for society.” With this recognition and financial support, the Institut Pere Mata University Hospital, in collaboration with IISPV, reinforces its leadership in biomedical research and its commitment to developing innovative solutions for some of the most complex challenges in mental health.
