Job description

The Division of Human Nutrition, from the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, at the Rovira i Virgili University (http://www.nutriciohumana.com/), and the Institute of Health Pere Virgili is currently looking for a pre-doctoral student who applies for a grant in the field of Nutrition Epidemiology in the context of the PREDIMED-Plus study or the Corals Study.

The selected candidate will join a line of research focused on exploring the association between various lifestyle factors (diet, physical activity…) and the risk of COVID-19 infection, as well as the effects of infection or look down on health (cognition, depression, cardiovascular risk factors.

Our research group is leading a large (n=6900) national funded project (PREDIMED-Plus) aimed to evaluate the effect of an intensive weight loss intervention based on an energy restricted Mediterranean diet, physical activity promotion, and behavioral support on hard cardiovascular events in comparison with a control group receiving usual care, including the recommendation to follow an energy-unrestricted Mediterranean diet without any advice to increase PA. The primary endpoint of this trial is a composite of CVD events (cardiovascular death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, and nonfatal stroke), but also we will ascertain other secondary obesity-related endpoints and intermediate risk factors. Coral is an observational prospective (10 years of follow-up) multicenter large (n=2000) study conducted in Spain in children 3-6 years old aiming to determine the potential risk factors of overweight/obesity.

The successful candidate must have a Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Biomedicine or other biomedical science-related degrees obtained in the las two years. A final mark above 8.3 is needed (compulsatory). To get the grant, the candidate has to be either accepted in a Doctorate Program or having a Master Degree. Previous experience in nutritional epidemiology will be considered. Publications, posters, congress attendance and other merits will be also well-considered. Self-motivation, independence and flexible working attitude and an ability to motivate workmates will be positively evaluated. English B2 or more level and basic knowledge in epidemiology/statistics (R or Stata software’s) will be highly evaluated.
