Peer Reviewed Alzheimer’s Research Program (PRARP)

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE USA – CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED MEDICAL RESEARCH PROGRAMS

Objeto

Topic: Alzheimer.

Destination: Military personnel face an increased risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or a related dementia as they age. Risk factors such as traumatic brain Injury, vascular disease, lifestyle and alterations in cognition or behavior may affect military personnel at higher rates or with greater severity than the general public. These risk factors may be linked to early dementia symptoms, such as aggression, memory loss, depression, and symptoms similar to those of other neurological diseases, long before a dementia diagnosis can be established by a medical professional. The program emphasizes not only basic research related to understanding and diagnosing the molecular basis of dementia after military service, but also tools and strategies which can improve the quality of life of individuals living with AD or ADRD (AD-related dementias) by their implementation in care settings. Three awards are available:
• Accelerating Diagnostics Research Award (ADRA)
• Investigator-Initiated Research Award (IIRA)
• Translational Research Award (TRA)

Budget: 750,000-2.5M USD, depending on the award mechanism.

Duration: 3-4 years.
