The Biomedical Research Institute of South Catalonia (IRBCatSud) is an institution that integrates research in the field of biomedicine in the “Camp de Tarragona” and the “Terres de l’Ebre”. The IISPV is the instrument that the university hospitals of both health regions have been endowed with (Joan XXIII University Hospital of Tarragona, Verge de la Cinta Hospital of Tortosa, Sant Joan de Reus University Hospital, Institut Pere Mata University Hospital of Reus) and Rovira and Virgili University, in order to bring together and manage biomedical research and innovation in the territory.

The successful candidate will join a young and dynamic scientific community and be supervised by two labs: the Gerard Muntané Lab, at the IRB Cat Sud, Tarragona, and Gabriel Santpere lab, at the Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB-IMIM/UPF), located at the Biomedical Research Park of Barcelona. Gerard Muntané is a researcher in the Genetics and Environment in Psychiatry (GAP) group, which is part of the Strategic Area of Neurosciences and Mental Health of the IISPV. Gabriel Santpere is the head of the recently formed Neurogenomics group at the GRIB-IMIM. His group is interested in the mechanisms that lead to brain specializations, including the human manifestations of multiple neuropsychiatric disorders.

We are looking for highly motivated and qualified candidates for a 3-month contract to join a project funded by La Marató de TV3 entitled: “INSCRIPTION: An integrative approach to schizophrenia risk prediction leveraging genetics, brain imaging and neuroepithelium’s transcriptome”. The project focuses on the genetic bases of schizophrenia, and how we can combine multimodal data extracted from patients recruited for this project, to improve our prediction of the disorder. The candidate will co-lead the writing of results in a scientific manuscript.

The selected candidate will perform the following tasks:

  • Conduct data analysis and prepare data for presentation in a peer-reviewed journal under the supervision of the project coordinators.
  • Write the results in a manuscript format.
  • Prepare the figures for final publication.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE & REQUIREMENTS

  • A PhD in Psychiatric/Behavioral genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, or similar fields is required.
  • Knowledge of complex trait genomics
  • Experience in the computational analysis of “-omics” datasets and in statistical genetics using Python and R.
  • Good organitzational skills.
  • Good writing and oral communication skills.

 

IT WILL BE VALUED

  • Experience with high-performance computing or use of clusters.
  • Have a broad theoretical knowledge of psychiatric/behavioral phenotypes.
  • Teamworking and ability to work independently.

 

SELECTION PROCEDURE

  • Selection of CV’s. Suitable and unsuitable CV’s will be identified according to the requirements. Applicants who do not meet the requirements indicated in the candidate profile and requirements will not pass to the next phase.
  • Evaluation of the CV. Evaluation of the CVs up to a maximum score of 40 points.
  • Cover Letter. Attach to the resume a cover letter with a maximum length of 2500 characters with spaces. With a maximum score of 10 points.

To access the interview phase it is necessary to have obtained a minimum score of 40 points in the sum of scores of the evaluation of the curriculum and cover letter

  • Personal interview. With a maximum score of 50 points.

Condicions laborals

  • Part-time position 20h/week (50%)

  • Contract: Indefinite for scientific-technical activities linked to the project funded by La Marató de TV3 entitled: “INSCRIPTION: An integrative approach to schizophrenia risk prediction leveraging genetics, brain imaging and neuroepithelium’s transcriptome” (Approximately 3 months)
  • Gross annual salary: 13.000 – 14.000€
