The Pere Virgili Institute for Health Research (IISPV) is an institution that integrates research in the field of biomedicine in the “Camp de Tarragona” and the “Terres de l’Ebre”. The IISPV is the instrument that the university hospitals of both health regions have been endowed with (Joan XXIII University Hospital of Tarragona, Verge de la Cinta Hospital of Tortosa, Sant Joan de Reus University Hospital, Institut Pere Mata University Hospital of Reus) and Rovira and Virgili University, in order to bring together and manage biomedical research and innovation in the territory.

This position is published by the PEDINUR Team (the pediatric nutrition and development research team) at IISPV, undertaking research activity at Facultat de Medicina I Ciències de la Salut URV, Joan XXIII University Hospital of Tarragona and at Sant Joan de Reus University Hospital.

Specifically, the researcher will work on the Gutbabi project (CPP2023-010598). A project from the call “colaboración público-privada” funded by the Spanish Agencia Estatal de Investigación, Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, cofunded by the European Union. For this Project, the team collaborates with researchers and industry to produce an infant product with functional ingredients to improve the gut microbiota and improve the immune system preventing infections.

The selected candidate will perform the following tasks:

  • Collaborating in performing systematic literature reviews
  • Recruiting paediatric participants
  • Performing the fieldwork for a pilot clinical trial
  • Dietary assessment in infants and toddlers
  • Aim to conduct a PhD on gut microbiota and health related outcomes in children

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE & REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or Biochemistry or Biomedicine or Medicine
  • The researcher must be currently admitted as Student to an Official Master at Universitat Rovira i Virgili) or to have the title.
  • Fluent in Spanish and Catalan
  • Speaking and written English skills (B2.2 or higher)
  • To declare to be interested in/ To declare a compromise performing a PhD on gut microbiota and health related outcomes in children as part of this team

 

IT WILL BE VALUED

  • Student of the Master in Genetic, Nutrition and Environmental determinants of growth and development
  • Marks obtained during the bachelor’s degree
  • Training in Good Clinical Practices
  • Competence and experience in Good Clinical Practices based research
  • Previous experience in similar projects.
  • Training in topics related to the call, such as paediatric nutrition, early programming of infant nutrition, dietary intake assessment, etc.
  • Motivation, creativity, initiative and proactive attitude.
  • Ability to learn, to work as part of a team, kindness, dynamism, responsibility and confidentiality

SELECTION PROCEDURE

  • Selection of CVs. Suitable and unsuitable CV’s will be identified according to the requirements. Applicants who do not meet the requirements indicated in the candidate profile and requirements will not pass to the next phase.
  • Evaluation of the CV. Evaluation of the CVs up to a maximum score of 70 points.
  • Cover Letter. Attach to the resume a cover letter with a maximum length of 2500 characters with spaces. With a maximum score of 10 points.

To access the interview phase it is necessary to have obtained a minimum score of 50 points in the sum of scores of the evaluation of the curriculum and cover letter

  • Personal interview. With a maximum score of 20 points.

Condicions laborals

  • Full-time position 40h
  • Workplace: main headquarters is the Faculty of Medicine in Reus, but Recruitment of participants and the clinical trial are performed at Hospital Universitari Sant Joan de Reus and Hospital Universitari Joan XXIII de Tarragona
  • Contract: Temporary (~ 18 months and expected to obtain a PhD competitive grant for 3 more years afterwards)
  • Gross annual salary: 20.000 – 22.000 €
  • Starting date: January 2026
