The Perafort and Garidells town councils’ walk against diabetes returns
For the ninth consecutive year, the town councils of both municipalities have joined forces to organise this activity, which will donate the funds raised to the IISPV
A moment from last year’s walk.
Monday 11 November 2024. Sunday 24 November at 10 am, the 9th edition of the solidarity walk organised jointly by the town councils of Perafort and Garidells, under the title ‘Let’s take a step against diabetes’, will kick off. This sporting activity will start at the Escola bressol in Perafort. From here, a 9-kilometre circular route will begin along rural roads, until it reaches the town of Perafort again. As in previous editions, on arrival at Els Garidells, a breakfast will be offered to all participants, who will be able to recover their strength before tackling the final stretch of the activity, where they will also receive refreshments.
The money collected from participants’ registration fees, which cost €5 per person, will be donated to the Diabetes and Associated Metabolic Diseases Research Group (DIAMET) of the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (IISPV). This economic contribution will help to continue advancing in the lines of research on diabetes that this group, one of the leaders in Spain in the research of diabetes and other metabolic diseases, has underway. In fact, the DIAMET group, led by Dr. Sonia Fernández Veledo and Dr. Joan Vendrell, director of the IISPV, has made remarkable findings in recent years that have been published in prestigious scientific journals.
Registration for the solidarity walk of the town councils of Perafort and Els Garidells can be done online (via the link https://serveis.iispv.cat/events/novena-caminada-contra-la-diabetis) or in person, on the day of the activity. All participants will be given a souvenir T-shirt, a discount cheque for the Wala shop, a breakfast in the Garidells and refreshments on arrival. There will also be raffles of different products offered by the various companies that collaborate with this initiative, which aims to join forces against diabetes.
